UnA ViA Company's Leave it is inspired by the ancient tale of Lilith, the first woman created by God. Mythology says that at the same time Jehovah created Adam, he created a woman, Lilith, who like Adam was taken from the earth. But there was a dispute: Lilith disagreed on Adam's decisions, and she was cast away from Eden to become a demon.
In this myth it is Lilith's position beyond the control of institutionalised power that makes her 'evil'. She is disobedient and, like Eve, and indeed all who are willful, she is perceived as posing a constant threat to the divinely ordered state of affairs.
Leave it is not a narrative description of this myth, but instead presents a more symbolic and allegorical representation. Ultimately, in its small-scale, off-beat way, it aims at making the grandest of statements about power and free speech, about imposed rules and regulation based on fear, and the necessity, therefore, of taking a step towards understanding, not demonising, the 'other'.
