Ella Robson Guilfoyle's Echoes will track three versions of the same narrative, each one ending differently as the paths of the performers are altered and momentary relationships are sparked, dissipating and reforming throughout the piece to cause confusion, joy and frustration. The ‘narrative’ is formed of a collection of personal stories that are physicalised and resonate in the body as the echoes of movement memory.
There will be several key relationships between the characters that will be built through an investigation of these personal stories over the course of a devising process. The three-loop structure will toy with the characters, bringing them close to their desires and hopes. Some will find resolution, and others will always just miss out. Do the characters retain a sense of hope that some day they will find what they are looking for? Or will they give up on their dreams and find only difficulty in the uncertain environment in which they are placed?
Echoes builds upon the artist's previous cross-disciplinary work by combining the vocabularies of dance and circus with the desire to present a truly integrated show where ‘tricks’ surface from within fluid narrative movement. The piece will work particularly with Chinese pole and trampoline, the equipment embedded within the structure of a specially commissioned set.
