With a long gestation period that began when the company was shorlisted for the 2010/11 edition of Jeunes Talents Cirque Europe, Genius Sweatshop's The Man Who Wasn't There is a circus and puppetry piece that centres on Albert, an elderly man falling into memory as he packs away artefacts from the past. Back when Sideshow saw it, more than a year ago, the mask-puppet that represented Albert was poignant and expressive, and the company's main work was in finding a clear throughline and focus for the piece. Whatever it might have turned into, it's worth a look.
