• Welfare State International

Theatre from the soil, the sea and the stars. Long-running, well-travelled and immensely influential, Welfare State International were a community theatre, a street arts company, a collective of secular celebrants and political firebrands – a group that brought new life to site-specific theatre and outdoor theatre but that did so by looking back, trying to reconnect with what was essential and in plain sight: natural rhythms, the untouched world, human connection. They worked with circus artists for a few of their large-scale shows, but did a lot more besides; for the full story see the book by one of the company's co-founders, John Fox, Eyes On Stalks.
