• The Acrobat Sublime

A look behind the scenes on one of the shots for Harriet Heyman and Acey Harper's book The Acrobat Sublime. Here contortionist Lauren Herley waits out the traffic before running in to pose (beatifically) at the mouth of a high, narrow subterranean tunnel that vanishes back into perspective.

Harper spent three years taking the photographs for The Acrobat Sublime, a collection of portraits of naked circus artists pictured in urban and rural environments — in silk cocoons suspended from railway bridges, hanging from the brackets of iron street lights, practicing deep in the woods, or balancing on the concrete floor of an NY subway station.
