An unusual (and isolated) UK date for the French company Cirque Inextremiste, this Unity Festival showing of Extrêmités is worth catching if you can. The three performers, slouching around a construction yard of corrugated iron, wooden boards and (empty?) propane cylinders, play out their boredom in a gradually escalating series of games – or not games really, nor stunts, but actions of escalating danger as they pass idle time by balancing the cylinders and boards atop one another, ever higher. It's a very tense, almost exhausting, show, but funny as well, in a deadbeat way, and by the end it's managed to indirectly express a lot about the motivations and pressures between the three characters.
