The exploded stage — littered with the detritus of popular culture and the messy spillage of opened hearts — is common enough within a particular strand of devised theatre, but is seen less in circus. Sideshow caught a 20 minute version of Popcorn Machine at the Jeunes Talents Cirque 2010 presentations, and found its adoption and displacement of the style refreshing, its referential framework broad and exuberant, and the performers themselves charismatic. Good trapeze, as well. This full-length version is worth a look.
