Produced by the New Wolsey Theatre in partnership with China Plate, Pulse Festival is a ten-day theatre and performance festival that focuses on 'new and innovative approaches to the arts and new, emerging companies'. The organisers are currently inviting applications from artists who want to show work at the next edition of the festival, taking place 29 May - 7 June 2014.
Proposals can be for finished pieces or for works-in-progress at all stages of development; Pulse will pay a fee for performances as well as providing front of house and marketing support. In an unofficial capacity, Pulse is also hooked into the New Wolsey's year-round activities and to initiatives like Escalator, so artists presenting there often develop other connections with the region.
Pulse are interested in circus work – as well as just about every other kind of performance – but it's worth reading through the extensive application notes and looking through some of the programmes from past years to get an idea of the festival's identity and interests.
Alongside the festival, Pulse are also offering The Suitcase Prize – a £1000 grant for a new, unfinished piece of work that can 'travel on public transport in luggage carried by the people taking part in the piece'. The selected piece will have a work-in-progress showing as part of the festival.
