Having lately taken up residence in the former BBC London headquarters on Marlyebone Street (in a building now named Marlyebone Gardens), Theatre Delicatessen are organising SPACED 2014 – A Theatre Souk, a mini festival of short performances that will take place during March 2014 and that will influence the programming/development of a larger Theatre Souk festival in late 2014 / 2015.
The goal of SPACED, and the Souk events, is to create 'a temporary collective of emerging companies and artists who come together to build a dynamic marketplace of immersive performance in non-traditional theatre spaces'. As at a souq, there are no fixed prices – it is between the artists and each audience member to negotiate an exchange.
Theatre Delicatessen are looking for proposals that will transform or animate one of Marlyebone Gardens' spaces through performance and design, that will run no longer than 15 minutes, and that responds in some way to the thematic question 'Is It Worth It?'. Selected artists will be given a residency space at Marlyebone Gardens for a two-week period February-March 2014 to develop their performance for the festival in March 2014.
Artists who are interested in the opportunity should sign-up for an Open Day on 15 December 2013, when they'll be able to look at the building's available spaces and discuss their ideas with Theatre Delicatessen. Applications are then due by 6 January 2014. For more information on SPACED and to apply see here.
