Though Sideshow has heard that Bartabas hates to be called a circus artist, nonetheless in his own country, France, it's fairly well accepted that the equestrian arts – from the traditional interpretations to the modern and dance-led adaptations – are part of the broad field of contemporary circus. So here at Sadler's Wells is what may well be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Bartabas – a renowned rider and choreographer working at the peculiar intersection of dressage and butoh – in London: onstage himself with four horses for a piece that goes deep into the relationship between man and beast in search of the mythical image of the centaur.
