As part of the Surge Festival of street arts, circus and physical theatre, Conflux will be running two Surge Labs in Glasgow in July. Each lasts two days and is lead by an artist or company who will involve participants in the R&D of a specific project.
Lab 1, taking place 18-19 July 2011, is The Inner Voice and is lead by the group Megrez 7. It will use acrobatics, acrobalance and movement technique to explore physical vocabularies that will help participants develop characters based on their own inner voices.
Lab 2,21-22 July 2011, is Cups and Saucers, lead by Katrina Caldwell. Project essence: 'Inspired by the beauty and emotional resonance of bone china tea services, this new work will explore in performance themes of fragility, ritual, memory and celebration. Each tea service held for generations behind glass cabinets for special occasions or scrubbed till the pattern fades from every day use, are vessels for treasured stories and memories. They have become a silent prosaic witness to the tangible and intangible threads of human lives.'
The labs are free, but you have to be available on both days. The organisers are looking for circus artists, actors, dancers, street artists, physical theatre practitioners, et al. For more information see this page, and head to its absolute bottom for an application form. Deadline for applications is 27 June 2011.
