A joint project of PANeK (Performing Arts Network Kent) and Applause Rural Touring, Applause Outdoors 212 is a scheme to develop and present outdoor performance at local community events.
Having now awarded six smaller development grants to Kent-based companies (and congratulations to Dizzy O’Dare, one of the six, who'll be working on their piece The Last Apothecary) PANeK and ART are opening submissions for a £20,000 commission.
They're looking for projects that 'reference London 2012 and the Olympic and Paralympic values and relate to the journey of the Olympic Torch through East Sussex and Kent in June 2012'. There are no restrictions on performance genre, but you need a track record of working outdoors and interactively, and the commissioned piece should:
Relate to the themes of the Cultural Olympiad – especially celebrating internationalism and diversity Be innovative in the ways it engages / interacts with audiences Be virtually self-sufficient – it should require only minimal technical or other support / by the host promoter Be accessible by audiences in a range of time frames (i.e. does not require the audience to arrive at a certain time and remain for a set amount of time)
For a substantial brief and details of how to apply see here [PDF]. Deadline for submissions is 5pm on 12 December 2011.
