Ventnor Fringe Festival, a sort of smaller, friendlier Isle of Wight version of the Edinburgh Fringe, is open for applications from performance artists and theatre-makers in all genres.
The interest here is that the Fringe will this year have a small top – an intimate, 300-seat tented venue – to accommodate small-scale circus work, plus there are a handful of buildings around the town (e.g. a large warehouse) which might, with negotiation, be adapted for circus work.
This is the deal: 'Anyone can enter the event with a fee of £25 for one performance, £40 for two or more and no charge if the event is free on entry. Acts keep all of their own ticket sales and the Fringe then helps artists find a suitable venue, promote their act and negotiate discounts for accommodation and travel.' Note though that some of the venues, and probably more the trad ones, will have hire costs.
Deadline for applications is 1 June 2011, with the festival taking place 17-20 August. See the site for more info.
