The Point, a combined venue and residential creation space in Eastleigh (just outside Southampton), has opened applications for its Associate Artist Scheme, which will 'support the creative practice and strategic development of four artists/companies working in a performance context' in the period September 2012 – April 2014.
The focus of the scheme will be on supporting the development of new artistic work, and on 'creating strategies around building audiences as well as establishing core organisational skills'. Associate artists receive: one-to-one mentoring from The Point’s director and creative producer; an administrative base at The Point – dedicated office space, shared telephone line, wi-fi, etc; business/organisational advice; access to space in-kind in any one of The Point’s three rehearsal spaces; opportunities to present work-in-progress and receive feedback; networking opportunities; seed money of up to £500 on submission of a proposal; seminar series – marketing, tour booking, pitching, fundraising etc; technical advice and support; discounted tickets for performances and Space for Ideas.
In return Associate Artists are expected to: take part in Scratch nights at The Point; conduct open rehearsals; work with the venue's audience development officer to create a dialogue with audiences exploring their work; act as ambassadors of The Point; disseminate their practice through online dialogue, workshops and via The Point’s national symposium due to take place in Spring 2014.
