Fundación enseñARTE Bolivia, a legally recognized ONG, is hiring a full-time Director for its Circus Arts Programme in Cochabamba and Quillocollo, Bolivia. FE was founded in 2005 as Performing Life, Inc. to teach performing arts and music to young people working in the streets as productive skills for avoiding drugs and delinquency, improving economic well-being, and creating better futures through the arts. From six kids practicing in a Cochabamba plaza in 2006, FE now runs four Circus Arts Classes with over 50 young people in two communities. The organisation also offers music, media, economic development, and tutoring programmes to help young people and their families.
The Circus Arts Programme Director will have experience in performing, directing, and teaching the circus arts in school, community, and theatre settings, and in working with young people between the ages of 8 and 18. Fluency in writing and speaking Spanish is a firm requirement. An 'ability to work creatively and energetically under pressure with diverse individuals in a range of conditions and demands' is also needed.
As part of their general duties, the Circus Arts Director will organise and manage all components of the Circus Arts Programme; assist Class Instructors with developing curricula; produce public performances; maintain written assessments of skills and personal development of each participant; and coordinate with other Programme Directors. Last year, the young people participating in the FE programme put on 51 performances, mostly in public spaces; appeared on television and radio; and presented a Festival de Arte y Musica Solidario.
The Circus Arts Director reports directly to the FE Director, and is responsible for managing Instructors and Assistants who teach four performing arts classes, three hours each, Tuesdays through Fridays, approximately 45 weeks per year. The director will also orient the young people and their families when they enter the programme; maintain programme reports; oversee the budget; and coordinate with the FE Team.
The salary for the position is 'commensurate with similar positions in Bolivia'. Paid vacations are from mid-December to mid-January. The successful applicant will be hired by 1 September 2013 and arrive in Cochabamba by 1 November 2013 for a paid training period, assuming the position on 1 January 2014. FE requires at least a two-year commitment.
