• Unpack the Arts – European Residencies for Cultural Journalists – First Call for Applications

    19 June 2012 Jobs & Opportunities

Unpack the Arts, the European residency programme instigated by Circuscentrum in collaboration with nine project partners and twelve hosting festivals, has opened its first round of applications. Up for grabs in this opening lot are residencies at:

    Ny Cirkus festival
    (Copenhagen, Denmark), 15-18 August 2012

    CIRCa festival
    (Auch, France), 31 October – 3 November 2012

    Festival novog cirkusa
    (Zagreb, Croatia), 8-11 November 2012

Each four-day residency is built around its hosing festival and gives participants the opportunity to experience and discuss the work presented there, as well as to conduct interviews with the artists and attend lectures given by circus experts. There is no fee for participation and Unpack the Arts will cover all expenses and associated costs (travel, subsistence, show tickets, etc), but following their residency participants must write a 2000 word article for inclusion in a multilingual publication documenting the project.

The programme is open to cultural journalists, critics and theorists working in any form of media, but applicants should be focused on the performing arts (not necessarily circus), should have at least three years experience and be still active in their field, should have a good level of spoken English, and should live in one of the 35 countries participating in the Culture programme of the European Commission.

For more on the project and for application info see here. Deadline for applications is 6 July 2012.

The second round of applications, for residencies with six of the remaining hosts, will be opened in November 2012 (with the residencies taking place February - August 2013). The call for the final round of residencies (taking place in late 2013 / early 2014) will then be issued July 2013.
