The Point, a combined venue and residential creation space in Eastleigh (just outside Southampton), has opened applications for its Associate Artist Scheme, which will support the creative practice and strategic development of four artists or companies working at The Point over a twelve-month period running April 2015 - March 2016.
The focus of the scheme will be on supporting the development of new artistic work, and on 'creating strategies around building audiences as well as establishing core organisational skills'. Associate artists receive: one-to-one mentoring from The Point’s director and creative producer; an administrative base at The Point – dedicated office space, shared telephone line, wifi, etcetera; business/organisational advice; access to space in-kind in any one of The Point’s three rehearsal spaces; opportunities to present work; networking opportunities; seed funding; seminar series and technical advice/support; discounted tickets for performances and professional development opportunities.
In return Associate Artists are expected to: become involved in the wider programmes at The Point and Creative Eastleigh hubs; conduct open rehearsals/talks/sharings; work with the Point's audience development officer to create a dialogue with audiences exploring new work through live and digital means; act as ambassadors of The Point and Creative Eastleigh; disseminate their practice through online dialogue, workshops and via conferences and symposiums held at The Point; commit to making at least one new work during their associateship.
