Glasgow-based company Bright Night International are looking for a Circus Trainee. This is a paid, full-time 1 year post open to anyone looking to become a circus professional, with hands-on experience and training across theatrical, commercial and education work.
The Circus Trainee will be a company performer and hands-on assistant working in each of Bright Night's three main strands of activity: Theatrical Shows, Education and Events. Following an initial assessment and the design of a development plan, the trainee will undertake a combination of project work and training to cover the key competences required by a professional circus practitioner, as well as receiving rehearsal space and support to develop their own skills and creative work. Performance opportunities will range from commercial events to theatrical projects. The aim is to give the successful applicant a springboard into a professional circus career by covering technical, creative, teaching and management skills.
Essential attributes: 1 year regular training in circus skills or 3 years regular training in a related discipline (e.g. gymnastics, parkour, physical theatre); basic office and IT skills; base level of strength, flexibility and fitness; self-starter with strong time management skills; willingness to commit to physical training; ability to take direction; professional, positive and flexible attitude; fluent in English; love of circus.
Desirable attributes: 1-2 years admin experience; devising experience; performance experience; teaching or coaching experience; driving license; performance level in multiple circus skills; advanced office and IT skills, graphic design, photo or video.
The salary is £13,923 for a one year full-time position. The post is open to international applicants, however BNI are keen to see local and UK-based applications.
