Furnace is a development programme at West Yorkshire Playhouse that supports artists and theatre-makers to work closely with the venue in developing and creating new projects and presenting work-in-progress / fresh ideas as part of Furnace Weekend at the Playhouse each autumn. Furnace artists work closely with the Playhouse on developing a new performance, with all support geared towards the vital first stages of getting an exciting new idea on its feet.
The Playhouse is looking for a company, practitioner or group of artists with an early stage track record of creating new work. Artists should apply with an idea in mind for a new piece of work which is in need of time for development and exploration (so experience of producing and realising at least one show). The venue is interested in ideas 'which could ultimately land in small to mid scale theatre spaces', though they are also open to projects which might happen off-site or in a different kind of location or context. Applications are open to practitioners from across the UK, though those coming from West Yorkshire or the Greater North are particularly encouraged.
Supported artists will receive two to three weeks of rehearsal space at WYP for R&D (early autumn 2014), a seed commission of £1500, producing and fundraising support, creative mentoring opportunities with Playhouse associate artists and companies, production and technical support leading to a showcase at Furnace Weekend (9-11 October 2014), and advice and support for the work's ongoing development.
To apply and for more details see here. Deadline for applications is 7 July 2014.
