For its seventh edition – running 11-13 April 2014 – the festival Rencontre des Jonglages is looking to curate a new film strand focusing on juggling and object manipulation shorts. The festival isn't looking for videos that simply record technique, but for 'beautiful cinematic objects' that explore the relationship between the movement of juggling and the movement of the camera, that work on the symbolism or the metaphors of objects, or that create a particular aesthetic universe.
Films selected for the festival will be shown in a room equipped with a video projector, a screen (image size about 2m x 1m) and a public address system; audience capacity is up to 50. Two time slots are planned for showing the films: In return for participation the Maison can offer a day pass for the festival on the date of the screening, as well as lunch and dinner – but not travel/accommodation.
Any artist or group can submit video for the festival to consider, and it's permissible to make multiple submissions. Submitted films should not have been widely disseminated before the festival, and should be connected to the aesthetics of juggling / object manipulation. Recordings of technique are not sought unless the film treatment itself is particularly original. Each proposal must at least contain a title and information on the creative team. There is no time constraint for films, but feature length films are not sought.
Proposals should either be submitted on a USB stick or DVD to La Maison des Jonglages, Centre Culturel Jean-Houdremont, 11 avenue du Général Leclerc, 93120 La Courneuve, or should be e-mailed to maison.jonglages@gmail.com by 24 March 2014.
