• Circus Artists Sought for JAM's The Big Bounce

    18 February 2014 Jobs & Opportunities

JAM, a company based in South-West England that specialises in youth projects, and The Lyric Theatre, Bridport are looking to appoint three circus artists (two performers, one performer and lead) with strong ground-based acrobatic and dance skills to work on a new early years production called The Big Bounce.

The Big Bounce is a new circus piece created for parks and green spaces that's split into two parts: a 30 minute performance spent exploring colour, balls and playing, followed by 30 minutes of playtime with 100 large coloured balls (0.5m – 1.8m in diameter) and one giant ball (3m). The performance is for small children aged under five years. The piece is set to tour Dorset and London with over eleven dates in June and July 2014.

JAM are looking for two ground-based circus artists with acrobatic and dance skills to perform in the show. A third lead circus artist is needed to perform in the show and to assist in the creation of the piece, which will take place over three early years sessions in Dorset and London using the 5x5x5=Creativity approach. Sessions will be lead by children’s theatre producer Niki McCretton and producer Jenny Gordon, supported by the lead circus artist and a live musician.

For both the performer and lead positions, experience of any ball work is an advantage; no early years experience is necessary, but a 'keenness to develop early years practice' must be shown.

The early years sessions (lead circus artist only) take place 10-14 March, 24- 28 March and 1 - 3 April 2014 in Dorset and London. Rehearsals for the show will take place in Bridport 28 April – 2 May and 26 -31 May 2014, with a premiere on 1 June in Dorset. A weekly fee with accommodation, food and travel expenses will be provided. Tour dates are currently pencilled in for 28-29 June, 5-6 July, 12-13 July, 24 July – 3 August.

To apply send a CV and a short cover letter (one side A4) outlining your interest in early years work, previous relevant experience, and what you feel you could add to the project. Also provide up to three URL links to your work, preferably film or photographs, and send your application as a PDF to Jenny Gordon on jenny@yummyjam.co.uk by noon on 24 February 2014. Auditions will take place at The Lyric Theatre, Bridport on Friday 28 February 2014.
