InTRANSIT is a festival of outdoor / site-responsive art and performance set up by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and focusing on new commissions and new collaborations. For 2014 the organisers are looking to commission or support around twelve new outdoor or site-responsive projects to be presented in Kensington and Chelsea in July this year.
The festival are looking specifically for proposals related to the idea of 'dwelling in unity'. Proposals could be 'on the themes of, say, marriage, the home, utopian or dystopian communities, domestic situations, or exploring “to dwell on thoughts”, perhaps drawing on mass community/audience contribution'. Projects that already have, or could bring in, additional funding from other sources will be at an advantage. The organisers are also keen to commission work which will have a life beyond its performances at the festival.
Between £1000-£5000 can be invested in each individual commission. Once work is commissioned, the organisers will agree with applicants how much of the production cost can be funded by the Royal Borough.
Helen Scarlett O’Neill and Harry Ross (Secret Cinema design and production team 2010-2013, current producers of The London Contemporary Orchestra and Silent Opera and co-directors of The Spectators' Guild) have been commissioned by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea to curate this year’s festival and to work with participants in their search for appropriate outdoor / site-responsive spaces.
The 2014 InTRANSIT festival runs 18-27 July 2014. Send expressions of interest and address any queries to intransit@rbkc.gov.uk including links to any previous work and an outline of any additional funding sources you might be able to draw on. The deadline for submissions is noon on 7 April. Expressions of interest will be shortlisted by 10 April. Artists will then be given three weeks to develop their idea further before the final selection on 1 May.
