Without Walls, a consortium of seven UK outdoor arts festivals, is currently inviting artists and companies to apply for Research & Development support for the development of new outdoor work for presentation in 2015 or 2016.
The R&D grants, which give artists the 'opportunity to explore new ideas as part of the development process, before committing to a production', will be prioritised for applications meeting one or more of three focuses: innovation, risk and new boundaries (artists experimenting with new ideas and techniques, digital technology and ambitious material); small-scale work suitable for both urban and rural settings; and work by culturally diverse and deaf and disabled artists. Large-scale work is not a priority for 2015, but artists can apply with larger projects intended for presentation in 2016.
Without Walls has an overall budget of around £25,000 to invest, and expects to support up to five proposals. Applications can be made for projects that have other forms of R&D support, but this is not needed; artists must be based in the UK. Following the R&D, Without Walls expects to further support some projects as they are developed for presentation in 2015.
