So the Without Walls commissions have been announced for 2011, and among the recipients, representing circus, are Scarabeus and Wired Aerial Theatre.
Not the most interesting choices really, and it would be nice to see Without Walls – a consortium of eight of the UK's largest street arts festivals, currently in the middle of a two-year £1,000,000 funding agreement – turn its eye toward outdoor manifestations of circus other than wired work (they supported Gravity & Levity and Wired Aerial Theatre in 2009).
Both Scarabeus and Wired will be collaborating with another company/artist: Scarabeus with integrated dance company Candoco on 'a modern exploration of the Minotaur/Icarus legends', and Wired with director of large-scale spectacles Nigel Jamieson on a show about climate change.
