The Circulation of Street Arts and Circus Artworks in Europe – 2011

Following on from a previous study conducted in 2006 that took a statistical measure of the health of 66 circus and street arts companies (annual income, number of employees, level of subsidy, etcetera), The Circulation of Street Arts and Circus Artworks in Europe – 2011 collects the same quantitative data from some of the same companies (21 had either closed down or didn't reply) to get an idea of how their situations have changed in light of the global economic crisis. The years compared are 2006 and 2010.

An Introduction to Contemporary Circus by Tomi Purovaara

Published by the theatre and performing arts press STUTS and a project of the New Nordic Circus Network, An Introduction to Contemporary Circus brings together five texts. The largest, by Tomi Purovaara, provides a sweeping overview of the historical developments that have directed circus' development as an artform before shifting to focus on some specific companies and aesthetic facets of the contemporary scene.

European Circus Charter for Hosting Circuses in Towns

Circostrada has published the European Circus Charter for Hosting Circuses in Towns, a document developed by a large European working group that lays out a model of good practice to which local authorities, circuses and other hosts can subscribe.

It divides into four parts: How to host a circus?, Location, Installation, and Performance, colour coding its recommendations to distinguish between circus and local authority commitments.
